Volunteer Crossing Guard Program

Help Keep Our Kids Safe – Become a Volunteer Crossing Guard

The City of Mountain House is launching a new Volunteer Crossing Guard Program to ensure the safety of children as they walk to and from school. We need dedicated community members to step forward and volunteer.

Why Volunteer?

Mountain House was designed to be a walkable community, and pedestrian safety is a top priority. With the high cost of paid crossing guards, a volunteer program is the most feasible way to provide this essential service. Equipping each volunteer costs an estimated $100 annually, and the total cost of the program will be significantly more affordable than hiring paid professionals. By volunteering, you’re helping keep children safe and contributing to our community’s well-being.

Requirements for Volunteers:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Commit to one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon each day
  • Complete a two-hour training session (including classroom instruction and practical training)
  • Undergo fingerprinting and background as required by law

Key Dates:

  • Application Deadline: September 10, 2024
  • Fingerprinting Deadline: October 2, 2024
  • Training Session: October 16, 2024
  • First Day at Intersections: November 2024
